DREAM VERITAS! From Tragedy to Transformation profiles powerful women activists and artists, evoking dreams to guide, reveal, and heal personal trauma and create political change. Their dream accounts wake us to the profound power of our inner wisdom. Their dream accounts of 9/11 and other events wake us to reality and response. Their dream accounts wake us to remembering, understanding, listening to, and expressing our dreams.

The dream narratives include 9/11 widow Ellen Mariani, graphic designer Sandra Taylor, 9/11 justice advocate Lynn Pentz, painter and poet Claudia Chapline, peace activist Cindy Sheehan, and collage artist Marsha Connell.

Dream Veritas! premiered at “In the Course of Human Events 9/11-2011,” an exhibit sponsored by the Louisville Visual Art Association, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. According to curator Aron Conaway, the title was taken from the first seven words of the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the creation of a new nation, foregoing empire and imperialism, based on freedom for all.

It is stunning how far the US has moved from those ideals toward fascism– the merging of government and corporate power– in the 14 years since the LVAA exhibit, in the 25 years since 9/11. As many of us feared, 9/11 was the galvanizing event towards a repressive, suppressive police state at home and violence, war, and death abroad.

We must stop the rising tide of fascism engulfing America. That is why Dream Veritas! is still prescient. We can look to our dreams, messengers of the night, to reveal truths upending the fusion of government and corporate power. We can look to our dreams, messengers of the night, to guide us to a peace-filled future.
