2O YEARS LATER: SAME STORY, DIFFERENT NAMES, SHAME ON US

“American Flag of Death,” painting, © Claudia Chapline, created March 19, 2006, the third anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq

“I’m standing on a ladder, painting a large (American) flag. The stars resemble exploding bombs, and the stripes resemble missiles. A skeleton’s head emerges from the war machinery. — Dream of artist-peace activist Claudia Chapline, March 11, 2006,  the third anniversary of the US illegal invasion of Iraq

“When I awoke the next day, I sketched the flag in my journal, and then I made a small painting from the drawing/dream,” Artis Claudia Chapline said. “For me, the flag painting symbolizes the discrepancy between American ideals and manifest American policy.”

The American Flag of Death graphically depicts the US war machine of belligerent US presidents, a complacent Congress, and a complicit corporate media. These forces capitulated the US into the disastrous, illegal, and immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq and have aligned to write and whitewash the foreign policy of the United States.
