What Political Dreams Do You Remember?

In early May, a long-time friend and former government worker, in an exchange of texts, asked what I was writing. I sent her the draft cover of my current book project—working title, Truth: Dreams Reveal Rising Tide of Fascism in America:

And, I asked, “Have you remembered any political dreams in the past year or so?”

She replied: “Thank heaven, no political dreams.”

A couple of days later, she texted again: ”It’s so interesting you would ask me about political dreams… which I never have, or at least I can’t remember any. Last night, I dreamed Trump was firing ordinary people left and right for any negative comments they made about him. I remember feeling very scared and thinking we live in a dictatorship where there is no freedom of speech. My second reaction: I was relieved I was retired, so I couldn’t be fired.”

I suggested before she drifted off to sleep, she might ask her dreams for guidance, questioning how she could peacefully prevent others from being fired, arrested, or deported for exercising their constitutionally protected right to free speech.

She responded: “I’d much rather dream about pleasant things!” and inserted a graphic similar to this Sweet Dreams image:

I understood.

German journalist Charlotte Beradt had written a book with the dark title The Third Reich of Dreams: Nightmares of a Nation, 1933-39, revealing the dreams of the German people during the rise and reign of Adolf Hitler. But I also knew, as I wrote my friend, “Given the rising tide of fascism in the world, we need all the help we can get to stop the deluge. And our dreams, messengers of the night, can offer guidance, healing, and transformation in these tumultuous times.”

Now, more than ever, look to your messengers of the night for guidance. Be sure to follow the four-point RULE. — Remember, Understand, Listen to, and Express your dreams. To phase in the blueprint, start with Remember. Keep a diary-like journal of your daily activities, thoughts, concerns, and, of course, dreams. Title the dreams and date when they occurred. Even snippets can lead to mega insights.
