TRUMP DEALS WITH GOD

“My husband and I were invited to an event to honor a young child—a christening or special birthday. It was a seated dinner. As we approached the room, we realized Donald Trump was at the head table. It was elevated above the only other table in a t-arrangement. Both tables were covered in plain white cloths. There was nothing on either table–no dinnerware, flowers, food, or drink—nothing festive.

“The only people in the room were Trump and the parents of the child. They were seated at the lower table.  When we saw Trump was speaking—in fact, about to offer a prayer—we turned to leave, not wanting to be part of this. Trump called us to come back because he was about to pray for the child. He said if we didn’t stay, he wouldn’t pray, and we would be responsible for all the bad things that would happen to the child.

“So we went back and sat down opposite the parents. I did not know them, but they looked confused. Then Trump started to pray. I don’t remember what he said, but it was rambling. I remember thinking it was inappropriate.

“Then he stood behind the parents, looming over them and reaching over the mother’s shoulder to place two gold coins on the table.

“Then, the prayer became an attempt to make a deal with God. The deal was not on behalf of the child; rather, Trump was telling God if (God) didn’t do what Trump wanted, (Trump) would see that the parents and their child would pay for it.

“Then I woke up. Thank goodness!”

Ann R. of  Pennsylvania dreamed the dramatic scenario (more like a nightmare) on April 3, 2018, after she watched a news broadcast of the White House Easter Egg Roll held the previous day.

She described the event:

Donald Trump, his wife Melania, and someone dressed as a bunny Trump called “Gary” or “Barry” appeared on the White House balcony. Trump bragged about US military prowess and the booming economy he claimed to have enabled to the throng of children, parents, and reporters gathered on the lawn.

After he descended to the South lawn, Trump continued what Ann called his “inappropriate ramblings.” Mingling with the festively dressed children, coloring eggs or pushing their decorated creations, Trump derided undocumented children and teens who had come to the United States from Central America and Mexico seeking safety and security from the violence and poverty in their home countries.

Trump had rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and was negotiating with Congress to modify or restore the program.

Ann found Trump usurping the 140th White House Easter Egg Roll  “really offensive and very sad.”

TRUMP’S FAMILY SEPARATION POLICY

Three days after Ann’s chilling dream, Trump announced his cruel “zero tolerance” immigration policy—separating and caging thousands of infants and children from parents seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border.

Border officials separated nearly 5,000 children before June 2018, when outrage against the policy forced Trump to cancel it. Today, more than 1,000 children have not been reunited with their families.

In recent campaign speeches, Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, has intensified anti-immigrant vitriol. His campaign hinted, that as president, he would expand detention camps and deportation started during his initial term.

As vice president, Kamala Harris repeatedly told those trying to find shelter and safety in the US, “Don’t come.” As the Democratic nominee, Harris, in a visit to the Arizona-Mexico border on September 27, said she would tighten restrictions on asylum seekers if she is elected president.

Donald Trump gained celebrity status with the 1987 publication of his book, co-written with Tony Schwartz, Trump: Art of the Deal. Like the cover portrait of Trump as a staid businessman, the book casts Trump as a successful mogul with acumen in real estate, casinos, and hotels.

MORE LIKE A NIGHTMARE

The dream graphically reveals the dark side of the psyche of the 45th President of the United States and the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. The austere church scene contrasts starkly with the carefully choreographed, made-for-public consumption White House Easter event with a colorfully dressed band, a military singing group, and playful children.

Trump bargained with God in the sacred space of a religious occasion. Like his immigration policies, the “negotiating” tactics of Trump in the church maliciously inflict pain on the vulnerable. He blames others for his toxic actions.

The t-shaped table in the dream is reminiscent of a cross. The head table, where Trump was seated, is raised higher than the table where the family celebrates their baby.

In the musical The King and I, the monarch sings. “No one’s head should be higher than mine.” The medieval political-religious divine right of kings confers royalty with legitimacy derived from God.

In America, however, presidents are elected by the people, and the authority of a president flows from the Constitution.

The Trump deal with God also reveals the hubris of the man. Hubris ended the rich reign of the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar. The ruler descended into madness, becoming a grass-eating beast.

The chilling dream illuminates the vulnerability of a solitary family enmeshed with a malignant force. Ann bears witness to the faux religiosity of Trump. Her dream reveals the depth of the cruel mind of Trump and the havoc his behavior wreaks. The dream warns nothing, and no one is sacred to Trump or immune from his vengeance — not even God.
